Was in town for the weekend to visit family and friends. After visiting the Santa Monica Pier decided to stop by this place because it was okay to smoke, a very rare thing in California. Doorman was absolutely a rockstar when it came to customer service, friendliness and inviting us to come and hang out this bar. Live music a very pretty bartender who was fast with the drinks. A great spot to chill, talk, listen, and have fun. After leaving L.A. 33 yrs ago, it's nice to see there are still spots that were like it was in the late 80s and 90s.

The Britannia British Pub. It is April 30th, 2025. It is my beloved cousin's birthday. We normally take a simple meal in our area and during which I deliver my gifts. This year was different. In our phone call the night before, we both expressed a sort of wanderlust, and so we began driving without destination. The road led us to a favorite coffee shop in W. Hollywood, and we discussed where we would go next. It was a dreary day, overcast, so we decided to seek the sunshine and fresh air of Santa Monica. We went to a city parking lot right on the beach, with the intent of dipping a toe in the Pacific Ocean, thereby ending our short adventure. We looked at each other and noticed that we were not dressed for a beach outing. We noticed that the hike to the shoreline was nearly 200 yards, and both knew that our event was over. We both began to drive home. We had failed. I thought about lunch. "Let's get a sandwich or something at the Santa Monica Promenade," says I. We were both a bit peckish, so we took a spot in a public parking lot a block away and headed to our future. We had not walked a full block when we heard people, happy people, watching a football match, cheering. As we approached, we noticed a friendly little bar, people smiling, and some match on the many TVs. "Let's go in." We entered the Britannia Pub. It is on the old Route 66. It has a nice outdoor patio and big open windows so that guests can also enjoy the fresh ocean air. Very nice. We were greeted by Max, the barkeeper, who smiled so broadly at us that we were forced to smile back. As it turns out, we had arrived during happy hour, and we were handed a menu. There was a standing chalkboard by the door that read, "Fish and Chips, $7.50." We like fish, so we ordered 2 of those. Neither of us drink anymore, so we ordered two Diet Colas. The fish and chips arrived in a few minutes and were fresh, crispy, and delicious. We asked about what teams were playing, and the crowd was filled with people who were only too happy to describe the game. We got lucky by finding the Britannia British Pub. It is an inexpensive and fun place. The food is delicious. The crowd is welcoming and advised us that the drinks are strong. Came here for Happy Hour, which runs from 4 - 7pm, Monday - Friday. HH is as follows: $7 Domestic Drafts $7 Well Drinks $7 Well Wine $8 Craft & Import Beers $9 Guinness $7 Food: Fish (3) & Chips Buffalo Wings (3) with Fries Nachos (add meat $1.50) Chicken Strips with Fries I was not very impressed by the expensive beer pricing, but my brother thoroughly enjoyed his pint of Guinness. I ordered the Fish & Chips, which has 3 small pieces of fish, but they were admittedly delicious. Place had a bit of a grungy feel to it, but I can see how it is needed and welcome in a place like Santa Monica.

Great vibes. Friendly staff. They have pool 🎱 and show all the Eagles and Penn State football games. So if you are from Philly, a nice spot to come and hang out! They also have tasty food and drinks! And you can get a non alcoholic beer too!

EDIT: Fish and chips is now $8 and you get 2 pieces. Still good tho... Great happy hour prices. $7 fish and chips, $8 Guinness (20oz), $6-7 for other beers (16oz). The place is kinda grungy and smells funny but whatever
