Victorian tavern with a casual bar & upscale dining room pairing American eats with historic charm.
We live a couple hours away and finally had the opportunity to eat here. We have wanted to for quite awhile and had the opportunity yesterday. We arrived around 4 pm. The food was delicious and our server was great. But even though the restaurant wasn't busy at all the entire time we were there, we were sat in a side section clear in the back near an emergency exit. The door had an emergency exit sign taped to the door with masking tape and a piece of tape was on the window beside us saying not to open the window. The corner by us had a folded up privacy curtain and small stand stored there. The floor carpet is filthy. Flies were everywhere. We killed 3 while we were eating and the server apologized for the flies. This section of the restaurant should be redone before any customers are sat in it again. If we return again, we would be sure that we were not seated in this section. The rest of the restaurant is beautiful and we were so disappointed to have been set in a very unpleasant section.
A friend mentioned this place to me while we were enjoying dinner elsewhere. Work assisted by sending me to the area for some training, and I made it a point to head here for dinner. I loved the historical nature of the place and enjoyed looking around. The waitress was friendly and accommodating. The food was slow in coming. I originally ordered the halibut, but they were out, so I switched to the sirloin. The steak came out rare when I ordered it medium, so I sent it back. It came back a little closer to my liking, but not quite, and hunger won out. The steak was good. Overall it was a good dining experience and I recommend people to try it the good food and especially the historical nature. Best to call ahead for a reservation
After being stuck in mud for 2 hours at the Memorial Day events in Boalsburg, I needed a place to unwind. New to the area and The Bar was highly recommended, so I stopped in. It eas exactly what I missed from where I'm from. Bartender was great. This is definitely a place I'd come back to.
I love this place and the people! Indoor and outdoor seating, friendly bartenders, live music, shuffleboard, takeout beer, etc. - just a solid establishment, no frills!
